Princess Cut Diamonds
By Ally Too

The Princess Cut is relatively new. It is a very
attractive cut that gives out maximum brilliance from a
square cut. It is effectively a square version of the
round brilliant cut and is known as the square
modified brilliant cut. The square or rectangular cut
was invented about 30 years ago by Basil
Watermeyer from Johannesburg. It was then known
as the Barion cut. This was a style with extra and
improved so as to obtain maximum brilliance from the
diamond.

The square stone are better for certain design
application such as eternity rings, as they can be set
in one continuous line with no gaps between them
such as would be with round stones.

The Princess Cut diamond is more forgiving of
diamond flaws. Any inclusions are less visible and any
slight yellowish color is less noticeable. Also because
of the extra faceting, princess cuts are naturally more
brilliant and sparkly than ordinary square diamonds.

What to watch out for is that the setting for your
princess cut diamond protects the four pointed
corners as these are the points prone to chipping. A
recommendation for a good princess cut diamond is
having a depth percentage range of 58-80% and
table of 58-77%.

While not the traditional selection, princess cut
engagement rings
are becoming very popular either
as a solitaire or with accent stones.

Men’s Tungsten and Titanium Bracelets as a Fashion Trend
By Suneva

The jewelry market is influenced a great deal by the world of business as well as fashion. One business development has played a major role in changing the face of jewelry; the introduction of titanium and tungsten carbide metals. Especially in mens jewelry, tungsten carbide and titanium are leading the way in the current hot fashion trend in mens bracelets. The qualities of these two metals make them ideal for crafting mens jewelry; they are both extremely strong, durable, lightweight and affordable.

Titanium gained fame from its use in aerospace applications. Since titanium was introduced to jewelry design a few decades ago, its use has increased tremendously, keeping pace with popular demand, prompting many jewelers to expand their mens jewelry lines to include this wonderful inert metal. Not only is the versatility of this metal creating a stir in jewelry manufacturing, the craftsmen who work with titanium are also impressed by the purity of the metal itself, neither gold or platinum can match titanium.

The industry has welcomed this new trend, developing wonderful techniques to facilitate creative jewelry design of mens titanium and tungsten bracelets, rings and watches, full of all the style that every man wants plus the ruggedness that they need for their active lives-there is no need to pamper this jewelry, it is virtually maintenance free and 100% hypoallergenic as well. Today, you will find more jewelry designers using titanium more often in their work, catering to the men who appreciate this metals luster that is giving platinum some real competition due to its affordable price. The appeal of titanium bracelets for men is natural, its strength enhances their personal fashion style.

Tungsten carbide was previously used for industrial applications. Mens jewelry made of tungsten carbide has an even more incredible strength – it is four times harder than titanium and twice as hard as steel – this metal is so tough that it can only be damaged by diamond abrasion or a hammer blow. Mens tungsten carbide jewelry utilizes the qualities of this metal to its full advantage; all of the styles accent masculine prowess and every wardrobe.

But be aware when you shop for tungsten jewelry, that the binding used in creating this jewelry is extremely important. There are many jewelers who are using cobalt binders instead of nickel binders to cut costs, which can cause some individuals to experience an allergic reaction.

With the growing demand for these two metals, jewelers are enjoying an influx of new customers, as men discover the beauty and affordability of titanium and tungsten carbide. The qualities of these two cutting edge metals make it a wise choice for many designers who are turning out fresh, new creative designs in mens titanium and tungsten bracelets as well as other jewelry. Used alone or in combination with gold, platinum and diamonds, mens bracelets made of these two metals are setting the pace for the new fashion trend for men.

Common Types of Earrings for Men

By Jason Tye

The use of earrings for fashion can be traced back to the early 19th century where carved images of men wearing earrings, mostly of Persian descent, are displayed on palace walls. Even in the different parts of the world, such as Egypt and India, pharaohs and religious leaders were seen sporting earrings already.

Wearing earrings was originally thought to be of the female domain as to add to the glamour of the female physique. The popularity of earrings for female use started in Western Europe in the 1920′s. It was only in the middle of the twentieth century that ear piercing became popular in the male world. Before, the method of ear piercing consisted of using a safety pin to create holes in the ear but now, this has evolved to a better practice of using ear guns to embed the earrings into one’s ear. Earrings for men were popularized in the 1980′s when famous musicians, athletes and show performers flaunted earrings during the gigs and games. Nowadays, you can see many men sporting earrings to complete their look. There are two common types of earrings that can be seen in men’s ears are stud earrings and hoop earrings.

Stud earrings are largely popular to music performers at present. The main characteristic of stud earrings is that it seems to be pasted on the ear with no connection visible from the front. This works as the stud is constructed on one end of a post, which is what penetrates straight through the ear. A more classy type of stud earrings is the ones that feature a diamond as its stud. This type of stud earrings is very popular among the community since diamond stud earrings can be worn with casual or formal attires.

The second most common type of earrings for men is the hoop earrings. Hoop earrings are designed to resemble a ring so you can expect hoop earrings to be circular in design. Most hoop earrings are manufactured using metal tubing which has a thin wire attachment that penetrates the ear. Hoop earrings are fastened in a way that the wire attachment that is attached to the metal tubing will lock with the continuation of the metal tubing at the back of the ear as the wire attachment penetrates the ear. There are other hoop earrings that do not complete this circle though and works more like that of stud earrings, which has a lock at the back.

Choosing from the most common types of stud earrings is highly dependent on one’s preference. If you are thinking of buying one for yourself, then keep in mind the occasion where you will be sporting the earring. You have to be able to tell if that particular earring will match what you are going to wear. It is also very important to be honest with yourself as to deciding if you will look hot or silly with that particular earring. Significantly, you must choose an earring that you really like and must be ready to flaunt it.
